Although SocialText drop-in space has dropped out, there is another drop-in facility in Palo Alto.
Check out www.fiberhigh.com. We're just getting started as a coworking venue - we had thought we could rent cubicles but office space has gotten so cheap around here that the enclosed office crowd is going elsewhere. Sadly, they won't be able get on the Palo Alto optical fiber from most other places. You're right on the fiber at Fiber High. That being the case, it's probably not as attractive for, say, knitters, as for computer geeks. But we welcome knitters -- and musicians, especially folk and celtic types as well as computational chemists, web developers, linux lovers, etc.
We're not open all the time yet, except to monthly members who have keys. If you're dropping in, you might want to call first 650 618 9920 to make sure we're open.
We host an Educational Technology Meetup the middle Wednesday of each month and occasional Board meetings of the Keizai Society (www.keizai.org). If anyone out there needs a conference room for fewer than 20 people, don't hesitate to get in touch with us (Liza@fiberhigh.com)
I'd like to hear more about how to publicize a coworking space from those of you who have done it successfully. I know there is a lot of interest in this area but I haven't found the right crowd (or maybe that's cloud) yet. All ideas and suggestions will be greatfully listened to.
Cheers,
Liza Loop
There is a note on the SocialText wiki that says: "Unfortunately we've grown into this space and it is no longer available for coworking drop-ins. To find another coworking space check this coworking wiki. We were happy to host this space for over a year and hope to do so in the future."

Dear Fellow Palo Altans and neighbors,
Please drop by to see Fiber High. Bring your laptop and see how nice 50 Mbps can be for web surfing or uploading large files. We'll spot you a cup of Peet's coffee and discuss things technical, economical and musical. We'd also like your input on how to price our co-working space. Our public hours are sort of random at the moment so you may want to call before you come. Try 650 618 9920 to reach partners David and Liza or email liza@fiberhigh.com.
p.s. If your server is looking for a home we have collocation too!
