Beehive Baltimore

Beehive Baltimore was formed following a session at SocialDevCamp East 2 in November 2008. Twice-weekly sessions were held from November 6, 2008 through January 2009.  Beehive Baltimore opened as Baltimore's first coworking space at the ETC Canton on February 2, 2009.

Cafés with Free WiFi 

  • Teavolve (Aliceanna & Eden Streets, Harbor East)
    • Pros: Big, modern space with hip music.  Sandwiches, waffles, and amazing tea.
    • Cons: Sometimes loud / busy
  • Metropolitan(Federal Hill, Charles St)
    • Pros:  Fantastic food, good coffee, fast wifi connection, friendly staff, good art selection that rotates, good music selecitons
    • Cons:  Gets busy at times, a little loud for phone use
  • Koba Cafe (Federal Hill, Fort Ave) 
    • Pros:  Good wifi, quiet, huge upstairs with tons of terminals, always empty, quiet!
    • Cons:  Bad coffee, limited selection of food, parking on the street is touch and go.

    • Pros:

  • One World Cafe (Charles Village)
    • Pros: bar service too!, great food w/ vegetarian options
    • Cons: Can get busy, only 3-4 tables have access to outlets
  • Evergreen Cafe (Cold Spring Ave, Roland Park)
    • Pros: good food, good atmosphere, lots of other laptop users (students too)
    • Cons:
  • Daily Grind (Mt. Washington, Falls Road)
    • Pros: good coffee & food, sunny, big tables, rarely crowded
    • Cons: less than ideal temperature control, closes around 6
  • Daily Grind (Fells Point, Thames Street)
    • Pros: Lots of tables, good coffee, started providing surge protectors recently (5/08)
    • Cons: Sometimes kind of loud
  • Bluehouse Coffee (Towson - Note that Harbor East location closed 2/15/2009)
    • Pros:  Very quiet, Great coffee, Excellent Soup
    • Cons:  Location is away from other places of interest

 

Cafés with Pay WiFi or No WiFi

  • Spoons (Federal HIll, Cross St)
    • Pros:  Good food / coffee, great location for getting errands done, good selection of art
    • Cons:  Gets busy at times, steating is a little crampt,  staff can be pushy
  • Barnes & Noble (Towson)
    • Pros: Lots of tables, access to books, unobtrusive music
    • Cons: Peak times are crowded, only a couple of tables have plugs
  • Paper Moon Diner (Charles Village, 29th Street)
    • Pros: Big tables, proactive table service for hours and hours, 24 hours on weekends, funky atmosphere
    • Cons: I have only discovered 2 plugs, can be noisy, plan on eating

  • Remote Office Centers - www.remoteofficecenters.com - Free web site for posting and searching for Remote Offices.  The site lists offices for coworking and telecommuting.
