WHO?

Lightbulb is a new and exciting place for creatives, freelancers, entrepreneurs, and others to share space in an effort to both enable small startups to afford a great place to work, as well as foster a community of networking, partnership and collaboration.

Opening on Oct 1, 2009...Lightbulb will be the first coworking space in Charlotte, a city that hosts an ever-growing number of creatives, freelancers, small shops and small business startups.  We are currently accepting applications for all levels of membership.  Our space has a tiered system of use, for users of varying frequency and needs.

WHAT?

1.  We currently have capacity for six (6) anchor tenants, whose space will consist of a 10 x 10 semi-private. fully-furnished office with desk, chair, shelves and lockable storage.

2.  We also have capacity for 12-24 users whose space would consist of a open workspace with desk and chair.

Our facility has a complete kitchen, advanced high-speed wi-fi, cell-phone signal amplification and complimentary coffee ( brewed and espresso )

Users will have access to several small meeting spaces, casual meeting areas with couches and tables, as well as a 12 x 20 conference room with 42" plasma and surround sound for outstanding presentation capabilities.

Anchor tenants will enjoy 24 hr keypad access, while less frequent users will have access during business hours as well as extended hours on specific nights and weekends.

Lightbulb is also available for small meetups, with a 600 sq. ft space that comfortably accommodates 50 chairs with ample room for a presenter or video presentation.

Collective Giant

creative + coworking + community

http://collectivegiant.com

What is Collective Giant?

Collective Giant is going to be Charlotte’s first coworking space.  A coworking space is essentially a workplace that is inhabited by several independent professionals.  In this case, we will cater strictly to creative professionals - graphic designers, programmers, videographers, photographers, animators, and illustrators.

Josh McGlinn and Nathan Longbrook have been hosting Jelly sessions here in Charlotte.  Jelly is basically a gathering of freelancers and telecommuters who get together once a week and work on individual projects.  Sometimes there are break out discussions and sometimes it's just all work.  Mostly it comes down to casual collaboration.  With the success of these Jelly sessions, Josh and Nathan have decided to take it to the next level and develop a coworking space here in Charlotte.

The Big Idea

The big idea refers to what will happen after typical business hours.  The goal is to see Collective Giant develop as a hub for weekend workshops, meetups, and other gatherings in the off hours.  These meetings will beneift in two key ways.  First, they will help offset the monthly rent for the space and thereby keep the costs lower for its members.  The cost for renting out ths space for events will be much less expensive than other locations in town.  Second, any event held there will also serve as good exposure to the core members.

The group work will also work together on nonprofit pieces, though this will not be not mandatory.  It will only be for those that want to volunteer and be involved.  Again, the idea here is that by doing pro bono work, Collective Giant will draw more exposure.  Family owned businesses will also benefit by Collective Giant's pro bono work.  The goal will be to to complete one project per month.

Between the foot traffic, workshops, meetings, nonprofit work, and potential events held there the space could eventually become a hub for creativity.  One of the goals for Collective Giant is to simply better the design community.
